Star Trek

A couple of weeks ago film maker Michael Tapp posted a video he took of me playing the theme song of ‘Star Trek’, the TV show, at the Union Square subway station.
Within a few hours more than 11,000 people viewed it. By now more than 267,000 have watched it.
I was once told that ‘Star Trek’ fans are the most loyal. I now got to experience it first hand.

Please turn off the player on the right hand column before playing the ‘Star Trek’ video:

Many ‘Star Trek’ fan blogs discussed this video and some even gave my photo a ‘Star Trek’ make-over 🙂

Star Trek - musical saw

Star Trek - musical saw - subway musician

Thank you, Michael, for making this happen!
Check out film maker Michael Tapp’s blog – he has some amazing videos and photos of subway musicians.

I ran across your blog and had a question. I understand that you need a MUNY permit to play in the MUNY locations and that no amplification is allowed on the platforms. What I’m wondering is if busking is licensed in the other subway locations? I would love to try my hand at busking (being recently retired) and am working up a persona and act. While my instrument of choice isn’t as exotic as yours (I play concertina) I feel it can be unique enough to get a pause from the crowd.

I do enjoy your blog and have listed it in my favorites to check back in.

      Hi Dale,

Thank you for your kind words about my blog!

It is allowed to play in the subway without a MUNY permit.
Nobody (including MUNY musicians) is allowed to use amplification on platforms. People do it, but it’s at their own risk.
If you play at a MUNY location, you must surrender the spot immediately when a permitted musician arrives.
Don’t set up on any musician (permitted or not) – give other musicians respect for their space by making sure you don’t set up within their ear-shot.

      I hope this helps.

I am looking forward to seeing you in the subway. I think a concertina is very cool. If you see me in the subway – come and say ‘hi’.

      H Juan,

Thank you very much for your kind words and for your kind offer! We have telepathy – just this past week I started working on a new design for my website! I built my website in the 1990’s and except for the home page which was redone a couple of years ago, everything else has not changed since… I hope to have my new design up soon – I hope you will like it.
I was in Madrid many years ago, when I was 5 years old… I hope to visit there again some time.
Thank you again for your kindness!
      all the best,
      Natalia
