Singers Everywhere

As I was playing at the Music Under New York spot at the 59th street subway station I could hear the sound of singing faintly drifting in the subway station. I wasn’t sure where the sound was coming from.

Chill, Bow and two friends were “doing the trains” – walking from train car to train car, singing. They have been concentrating on the ‘6’ line recently. It wasn’t their sound I was hearing, though.

One of the singers of the group that was singing elsewhere in the station came to see how I was doing. It turned out that the singing sound I heard was the 3 singers + keyboard player. They were at the other end of the same platform I was on. I asked the singer how he’s doing, as I remembered last time I saw him he was starting to have a cold. He told me today was the first time in 2 weeks that he is singing. He had a severe cold and had to stay in bed taking antibiotics.

A toothless guy told me how his teeth were pulled out without his dentist letting him know how many teeth she was pulling out. He said he is a salesman and without teeth he doesn’t look presentable for his job.

Going home I saw a young guy I haven’t seen before singing and playing electric guitar. It will be interesting to see if he will last in the subway.

Perhaps you can help me. I was once on the Columbus Circle station this summer and heard a great quartet. It was a guy on a tribal conga, a woman on a violin, another guy on a violin, and a guy on a cello. Did not have a chance to see their name or ask them any questions. Would you know who they are???

Did they display the Music Under New York banner?
